Your Lovely Merchants Empty Your Lovely Merchants

Post by Tree Sun Jan 20, 2013 7:33 pm

Seeing a crowd of people in the distance, Jeroen decided that this would be a good time to pause, sliding a heavy bag off his shoulders and giving a quick stretch. He slid out his pocketwatch - a fine antique he had picked off someone a few years back - checking the time and humming to the small tune it sang, a small music box being built inside.
He clasped it back shut and put it away. "We made good timing." Jero mused aloud. They had been traveling a few weeks now, heading down the station line to Poortwachter. He'd enjoy their stay here, though... The lights, the casinos, the showgirls... Sportlaan was a party town.
A cocky smile grew on Jeroen's face, turning back to look at his partner.

Mirabella sighed quietly, but contently as she finally took a seat on a nearby bench. She looked around curiously at the crowd ahead, a frown on her lips that she hadn't even noticed. "Eyup." She replied, keeping her tone casual. In reality, she was a bit upset about coming back to Sportlaan, considering she hadn't returned once after leaving the first time. She prayed that she wouldn't run into her father, nor her mother, though that was unlikely. But, no matter her family issues, the light of the station couldn't help but light up her maroon eyes, and excitement crawled to her heart.
She looked up and over at her partner, finally smiling softly. "I hope the rat races haven't started yet- I don't know if you're aware of this, but back when I was just a shrimp, I raked in all the dough from those races. I was kinda a big deal." She laid a hand on her chest, comically lifting her chin.

The young man had a glint of determination in his eyes. He had never been down this way before, and in his mind - in the central of the station - there was a lively, Las Vegas like-area, where he'd certainly take joy in wasting away his hard-earned cash and getting drunk; only to complain of a hang-over in the morning. It'd be glorious.

There was a sharp, eager glint in his amber eyes, though it faded slightly as she went on in her bragging. "... rat races?" Jeroen raised an eyebrow. Well, that wasn't at all like he imagined. Probably just some kids game in this town. His eager smile grew back, "Ha. You're still a shrimp, Mir-Mir." He ruffled her hair, then pretended to look thoughtful. "Come on, you're a big girl now, tell me where the real action is." He eyed a woman as she walked by, skinny - old, clad in heels and fishnets. Wearing way too much make-up. A shiver went down Jero's spine at the sight of it and he couldn't help but shutter. Okay. That's alright. His hopes were still up.

And in those few moments, it grew apparent that Jeroen had only heard the exaggerated stories of Sportlaan. Grinning in amusement, Mira nodded. "Oh yes, Jiro. Rat races. One of the highlights of Sportlaan, if you ask me.' At his comment, she bit her lip and began to straighten her hair, taking out the bands and putting them back in. "Am not..." She mumbled, seeming to take the comment to heart, though she honestly didn't mind whatsoever.
Hair perfect and pink as always, Mirabella turned to face Jiro. "Well, I suppose there's the casino.. but I don't really wanna go there. Can't we just get to work?" She complained softly, leaning back on the bench. When the woman past, she didn't notice whatsoever- Mira was way to used to the scantily clad women. And the horrible tasting alcohol, but that was another story.

He sniffed and crossed his arms, refusing to belief this entire town was a dump and a sham - that is, until he saw it all for himself. "Yeah, well, nobody asked you." Jeroen retorted stubbornly under his breath. He watched her as she looked pitiful for a few moments from his comment, but he was not too be fooled. He knew her for too long, though that look might churn some other stranger's heart.
Jeroen gave her a slightly cross look, "We will, we will..." He huffed, "We have all day, though. Don't you want to have some fun?" The merchant spun back around, tightening the bandana over his short, blonde hair. "This is our last stop before we 'gotta start grinding the sales again." He shaded his gaze with one hand, looking around. "Let's go to these rat races - we'll see just how lucky you are ... unless you know where there's some love hotels nearby. I could use a lady friend." He gave Mira a teasing smile and winked, picking up his things again.

"Actually, I believe you did." She raised an eyebrow at his childish reply, laughing lightly. She wasn't surprised that her little act had no effect on him- it never did, after all.
Sighing loudly, Mirabella shook her head. "Fine, sure, I guess." She mumbled under her breath, dropping an elbow on to her knee and her chin to her hand, Mira looked down at the dirt ridden ground. "You know I could beat you anyday, bro." She challenged lightly, looking up with only her eyes.
Looking up completely, she turned away and laughed with no humor. "Why the hell would I know where your fucking love hotels are? And why would any lady want you? Jeez, Jiro. Go bald." She mumbled under her breath, pulling her backpack on and standing up, beginning to walk towards the station. "We're going to the rat races. Unless you'd rather go bald. I'd like that idea too."

"Ha, no I d-" Jero had started to point a finger at her in victorious accusation, but paused straight in his tracks, frowning as she laughed at him. Oh, wait - she did, didn't she? ... Well, shit. He didn't bother to say anything after that, shaking his head in dismissive defeat and turning away. He was never going to think of this moment again.
A new glint of mischief shone in his amber eyes as he stared back down at her, "We'll see..." He muttered, offering her his hand, but drawing it back awkwardly when she stood up on her own. The young man shrugged it off.
"Please, what lady wouldn't want this?" Jeroen scoffed, giving an all out boast, he puffed his chest out and everything. "Trust me. I've been everywhere, Mira~." If you know what he means. He didn't mind, though, he had only really brought up the subject in the first place because he knew it'd annoy her. "No - no. Racing rodents sounds fine with me." He rubbed his head with an uneven smile and took off, though he had no idea where he was going.

Smirking victoriously as she walked away, towards the building holding the ever famous rat-races.
"Me. Every other woman on the face of this Earth~ You know, the usual." She shot back ever so casually as he boasted. "That's nice. That's just lovely. Because I needed that image in my mind. Careful Jeroen, if your head gets any bigger it could implode." She retorted under her breath, though she knew he could hear. Though their banter could sound a bit strange to others, this was completely normal for the two.
She began to move ahead, passing by people on the street- some normals like Jeroen and her, some other 'showgirls', and an ever plenty amount of old drunks. A few would stare at the young girl passing by, which Mirabella promptly ignored, but they didn't make a deal of hiding anything. Soon, though, she made it to the doors of the building that held the rat races. She paused for a moment to let Jiro inside politely, making a show of bowing.

The young man shook his head, "You? You have no idea what you're missing out on." He muttered under his breath, refusing to let her take a stab at his ego. Jero shot her a crooked smile in the end, "But you're welcome."
The further and further they reached into the city, though, the more and more heavy disappointment hung over Jeroen's head. Where were the lights? The parties? The amazing atmosphere? D8 With a frown, he walking into the building, not giving a passing glance to Mirabella.
Inside was a crowded, dusty, nasty smelling arena. Several areas were set up to push through and watch little rodents race to the finish, numbers shaved into their sides. "... Beautiful. Just beautiful, Mir. Really. This is where your game is best?" He shot her a look of slight amusement. He wondered if anyone here would recognize her.

Rolling her eyes at her ever narcissistic partner in crime, Mirabella refused to let a smile creep up on her face. "Never thanked you..." She replied, just as quietly.
To be honest, Mira had attempted to warn the young man against getting his hopes up, but his image of Sportlaan was one far greater than the place actually was. She felt kinda bad for him, but that was his own problem, and she wasn't really that concerned. As he passed by her, she rolled her eyes and followed him inside.
Once there, she looked around, her eyes a bit brighter. Even the pressing sent of rats and alcohol couldn't stop her from pressing on towards the 'tracks'. Though the weren't much of anything. Pipes ran around the room, cut in half with room for rats. The whole place was crowded, and it was only then did she realize- people might notice and remember the vibrant girl that ran away just last year, still fresh in their memories.
"Don't judge the rat-races. And yes, as a matter a fact. My game is pretty damned good here." She murmured, though she seemed tense.
She looked around slowly, and her heart nearly lurched out of her chest as she spotted him- him as in her father. The man with salt and pepper hair and hair lines in his face was sitting at the bar, hunched forward and taking a sip of the pee colored liquid (thank you Bright) she presumed to be whiskey. Without thinking she grabbed Jeroen's arm, practically hiding behind him, eyes wide and heart racing. Please don't see me, please don't, please... She prayed silently, though that was of course to much to ask for.
Turning his head to the right just a bit, Leroy Mirchan caught sight of familiar pink hair. He grunted in disbelief at the sight of his daughter, but didn't seem to pleased. He stumbled off of his stool and towards Mirabella. "Girl, where you've been? It ain't nice to leave without sayin' so long, girl." He scoffed, reaching for her shoulder, but she moved away. This caused him to chuckle, though it was a humorless sound. It was apparent where she got her unique eyes from as he narrowed them. "You outta come back home." He warned, leaving an 'or else' in the air for her to grasp.

The merchant couldn't help but stare around blankly for a few more moments. Well, as you can imagine, simple disappointment was an understatement. He took in a deep breath and let it out slowly, determined to make the best of his vacation. "Oh, I'm judging... But that's alright, I guess." He didn't noticed the off tone in her voice as he rubbed his hands together, as if warming them - it was an eager, greedy motion. "Where do we start?" A few people shot him funny looks, he couldn't care less, though.
He was dragged out of his little zone when he felt Mirabella grip his arm, to which he could only on wide-eyed for a few moments in confusion. She rarely acted like this. "Hey," He muttered, "What's your problem?" It was then that her big, brute of a dad wandered up; he could tell from resemblance. And it was clear this guy had no intentions of a happy family reunion. Ah, question answered. Jeroen slit his eyes. Leroy, go home. Leroy, you're drunk.
He could smell the whiskey on his breath from here, even through the stench of rat.
In the same fluid, hasty motion - when Mira moved out of his grasp away from her father, Jero pushed himself in front of her; a sharp, sudden instinct rising to protect her. "Back off." The young man growled, putting a hand up, to keep their distance as a warning. "She's not going anywhere with you."

Mirabella peered from behind Jeroen. If she wasn't frozen in place- and if she wasn't shocked and a bit scared, then she'd have stood her own ground and given her father a taste of his own medicine. But she couldn't move.
Leroy watched Jeroen with a surprised expression for a long time, before he finally threw his head back and laughed loudly. "So girl. Did you leave for this pansy?" He questioned as he examined Jeroen's choice in clothing. Mira frowned, a blush rising to her already rosy cheeks. "I left because I couldn't stand it here." She growled, stepping from behind Jiro. "Because I couldn't stand you." She snapped, narrowing her eyes.

Her father stared at his daughter with burning eyes. He knew how much 'spunk' she possessed, but rarely did she speak up to him. "Shut up, girl." He snapped sharply. Finally he turned away from Mirabella, staring challenging daggers at Jeroen. "She's my daughter- she'll go where I say, dammit." Then, he reached out to grab Mirabella by the arm.

Psh. Jeroen is fabulously dressed. 'nuffsaid.
Still, biting his tongue, he would have said something if Mirabella hadn't stepped out from behind him first. She still seemed rather nervous, but he saw and found the fierce gleam in her wine colored eyes. He knew it well and a small smile was on his face as he watched her stand up to her father. He almost wanted to take a bet on how long it'd be till knives went flying.

When Leroy had thrown his attention back his way, though - at first he looking rather serious. Then he smirked. He almost laughed. "She's not yours anymore." He near cooed, wrapping one arm around her shoulders and closing the distance between them, his amber gaze returning the challenge. "She's one of my treasures. Not for sale." A haughty grin grew on the boy's face, "I won't let you take what's mine." When he reached for Mira, Jero reacted quickly, grabbing the elder man's wrist and unhooked himself, planted a fist in Leroys jaw.

Jeroen grinned. That was fun. He shook the friction off his hand.

"FIGHT!!" Some idiot shouted and threw a chair at Mira while Jero dived in to get a few more jabs at Leroy.

It wouldn't take Mirabella long to whip a couple of black knives from her pocket; three would be enough. Two for the eyes, one for the chest... The apparently violent little cherry moved her hands down towards her hips in a fluid motion- casually and unsuspectable.
She looked up at Jeroen as she felt an arm wrap around her shoulder, pulling her tight against him and away from her father. Mir grinned, turning to face the old man with a smug smile. She would probably have a nice talk to Jero about him calling her 'his', but at the moment such replies were welcome. She watched her father take a nice beating from her partner with wide eyes, coughing a bit in surprise. As Leroy staggered back in pain, losing his balance and quickly colliding into a table, Mira looked up at Jeroen's wide smile. The ends of her lips twitched lightly and she didn't even notice as her father tried to defend himself, but to no avail. He whimpered after one punch, covering his face from more.
She did, however, look behind her as someone screamed out. Letting out a cry of surprise as she spotted the chair, Mirabella ducked down. Hearing the stole crash on the ground behind her, she grabbed a knife from her back pocket and aimed it at the most suspicious fellow, hitting him right above the knee. He cried out in pain as the slender girl stood once again, another black blade twirling at her fingertips as she looked around for any opponents, a bright light in her eyes.

She could talk all she wanted to him, his mind was never going to waver from that fact - every since they had had their first run in with the bandits, he had put a claim on her, even if she herself didn't particularly know it yet. And he didn't expect her to try to slice at someone who didn't deserve it, but he certainly knew she could defend herself if she tried.

Jeroen didn't hold back against this man, both to try to keep his partner safe and because there was just a simple, arrogant thrill in beating the crap out of someone. His punches went around his hands and under his jaw, easy to hit Leroy, the alcohol making him tipsy in Jero's favor. "Whose the pansy now?" He shouted at him.
The young man let out a slightly choked sound though as he was yanked back by the back of his shirt; turning the face the man before being punching, falling back on the ground. He sat up and groaned, hearing someone crying out on the other side of the bar.

And then the entire place erupted. Jeroen flew back on his feet and shoved the second man back into a table of drinkers, quickly pulling out his pocket knife and using the dull handle to help fight others off. "Hey, Mir~?" He called, laughing. "I think they love us!"

Two other people ran up behind Mira, swinging at her, knives of their own in their hands. One aimed at her face, the other moved to grab at her legs.
